AWARD RECIPIENTS

PIONEER ALUMNI LEADERSHIP AWARD: DAVID LAFRANCE '86This award honors an alumnus/a of Lewis & Clark who has demonstrated extraordinary leadership in their service to the College.
David graduated from Lewis and Clark in 1986 with a BS in Economics. He has been a member of the Board of Alumni for the past seven years, the last two of which he has served as the President of the Board of Alumni and an exofficio member of the Board of Trustees.
Since graduating from Lewis and Clark, David has professionally been involved in the economics and finances of water. Currently he is the director of finance for Denver Water one of the largest municipal water providers in the nation. He received his M.B.A. from the University of Colorado in 1992. He belongs to the American Water Works Association, and is the past chair of the Rates and Charges Subcommittee. He is also an instructor for the AWWA Financial Planning: Cost of Service Rate Setting Seminar.
David married Justine Miani (Lewis & Clark Class of 1986 - math), and they have a daughter Sierra and a son Devon.
David resides in Littleton, Colorado.

OUTSTANDING YOUNG ALUMNUS AWARD: SHAHZEB JILLANI '94This award honors an alumnus/a for rendering superior performance in his or her chosen field and superior service to his or her chosen community within 15 years of graduation.
Jillani graduated in 1994 with a B.S. in International Affairs. He returned to his native Pakistan after graduation and worked for Bhutto's party. He later became a journalist and for the past several years has been BBC's Urdu Language editor working out of London. This year he was recently posted to Washington DC for a one-year assignment for the BBC. His articles are carried in BBC publications.
Jillani currently resides in Washington, DC.

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS AWARD: WARD PLUMMER '62This award honors an alumnus/a for rendering superior performance in his or her chosen field and superior service to his or her chosen community.
Dr. Plummer graduated with a BA in Physics, and went on to earn the Ph.D. in Physics at Cornell University. He is a member of the National Science Foundation and the recipient of a 1986 Guggenheim Fellowship. In addition, he has received numerous honors and awards in his academic field. At last count, he has authored or co-authored more than 300 publications. Plummer is with the University of Tennessee, where he is Director of the Tennessee Advanced Materials Laboratory.
Plummer resides in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

DONALD G. BALMER CITATION: PATRICK HIBBARD '52This award honors an alumnus/a, faculty or staff member, or friend of Lewis & Clark who has rendered outstanding voluntary service to the College.
Hibbard graduated from Lewis and Clark College with a B.S. degree in Business. He is the retired President and CEO of two Portland printing companies. He is active in the Class Scholarship program, and has provided generously to the Class of 1952 scholarship. Mr. Hibbard has been a tireless volunteer for the College, providing crucial support for the development of the Albany Society, and serving as that organization's first chair. He remains on the Albany Society Board of Directors, and has been an active member of the Board of Alumni since 2003.
Hibbard currently resides in Gresham, Oregon.
