Templeton Scholars Program
Lewis & Clark College created the Templeton Scholars Program to provide opportunities for gifted high school students from the greater Portland area to undertake
advanced study. Qualified students, who seek a challenging academic experience
beyond the offerings of their high school curriculum, may enroll in regular
Lewis & Clark courses with the permission of the instructor.
Credit earned through the Templeton Scholars Program can be used toward graduation
from Lewis & Clark. As policies concerning transfer credit vary among institutions,
students who attend other colleges should ask the admissions office about the
possible transfer of this credit. The student’s high school may also give credit
for the courses.
Applying for Admission
To apply for admission as a Templeton Scholar, you need to complete an application form and write a personal statement. You should give those materials, with the Counselor/Teacher Reference Form and an addressed, stamped envelope, to your high school guidance counselor or to a teacher that is aware of your overall abilities, goals, and potential. S/he will need to complete the counselor/teacher reference, attach a current transcript and mail the packet to the address below.
In addition, you should ask an academic teacher, with whom you have recently

Costs
An administrative fee of $200.00 per course will be charged and may be paid
by you or your high school. You should discuss the availability of such funds
with your guidance counselor. Students are responsible for course-related expenses
such as books and supplies. Students who find it necessary to park on campus
during their classes will also be required to pay for a parking permit. The
cost is $3.00 per day or $150 per semester. Parking fees are collected at the
Campus Safety Office, near Gate 1.
Course Selection
We ask you to indicate on the application form which area of study most interests
you. If you are accepted, we will provide a course listing and arrange for
you to meet with an advisor to select the course you would like to take. You
will be limited to one course per semester.
Participation in the Templeton Scholars Program will require a substantial amount of study time outside of the classroom. We estimate approximately two hours of outside work for every hour spent in class. It is important that you plan accordingly.
Continued participation in the Templeton Scholars Program is based on satisfactory
performance in the previous semester(s).
