Biologists examine life on our planet from many different perspectives, from molecules to ecosystems. At Lewis and Clark, students explore the many facets of biological science through a diverse and innovative curriculum in which all students carry out original research. Our goal is to educate our students in the practice of biological science by helping them to:
- Understand the scope of modern biology and the tools biologists use
- Formulate interesting and important questions about the living world
- Design sound approaches for answering these questions
- Write clearly and speak effectively about their findings
- Understand how their work relates to the larger context of biological knowledge
- Develop good judgment about the strengths and weaknesses of their own work and that of others
- Maintain a lifelong enthusiasm for learning about biology
