Biologists examine life on our planet from many different perspectives, from molecules to ecosystems. At Lewis and Clark, students explore the many facets of biological science through a diverse and innovative curriculum in which all students carry out original research.

Our goal is to educate our students in the practice of biological science by helping them to:

• Understand the scope of modern biology and the tools biologists use
• Formulate interesting and important questions about the living world
• Design sound approaches for answering these questions
• Write clearly and speak effectively about their findings
• Understand how their work relates to the larger context of biological knowledge
• Develop good judgment about the strengths and weaknesses of their own work and that of others
• Maintain a lifelong enthusiasm for learning about biology
