Charles Johnson s06Undergraduate College

Guest speaker: Charles Johnson, novelist, short-story writer, essayist, and cartoonist, whose book Middle Passage earned the 1990 National Book Award. Johnson is the S. Wilson and Grace M. Pollock Professor for Excellence in English at the University of Washington, where he teaches fiction writing. He is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Creative Writing Fellowship, a MacArthur Fellowship, and numerous other honors and awards.

Anita Usaka s06School of Law

Degrees awarded: J.D.; LL.M. in Environmental and Natural Resources Law

Number of graduates: 268

Guest speaker: Anita Usacka, a Latvian judge and one of 18 judges to serve on the International Criminal Court in The Hague. An expert in international humanitarian and public law, she has directed and contributed to a number of crucial projects integral to the transition to democracy in central and eastern Europe.

Degrees awarded: M.Ed.; M.A.T.; M.A. in Counseling Psychology; Ed.S. in School Psychology

Number of graduates: 249

Guest speaker: William F. Schultz, executive director of Amnesty International USA. During more than a decade with the organization, he has participated in numerous international humanitarian missions, including trips to Darfur, Sudan; Liberia; and Northern Ireland. Schultz has received numerous honors, including the Harry S. Truman Award for International Leadership and Humanist of the Year (2000).
