Gender and the Arts

For nearly 20 years, the Guerrilla Girls have assumed the names of dead women artists and worn high heels and gorilla masks to advocate for equal opportunity in society and the arts.

In March, they took center stage as keynote speakers and performers at Lewis & Clark’s 22nd annual Gender Studies Symposium, Gender and the Arts.

Black cultural critic Mark Anthony Neal also delivered a keynote lecture titled “Baby Mamas, Chickenheads, and Post-Soul Gender Relations.”
