In November, Myah Moore ’03 took home the crown from the Miss Oregon USA pageant. In March, she represented Oregon in the program’s national pageant in San Antonio, Texas.

“Participating in the pageant provided time for personal development and self-reflection,” says Moore, who graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. “I returned with an even stronger idea of who I am and what I stand for. I learned about communication, about the world, and most importantly, about staying true to my convictions.”

As a person of Black, Cherokee, Caucasian, and Korean ancestry, she works as an advocate for people who deal with issues of multiracial identity. While at Lewis & Clark, she received a Student Academic Affairs Board grant to assess how college students with multiracial identities are affected by the challenges they face at six different Oregon campuses.

Moore’s long-term goals include working with Matt Kelly, founder of the multiracial magazine Mavin, to establish a bone marrow registry for multiracial donors and recipients, and someday becoming a college or university president.
