Liz Safran and environmental geology class

Liz Safran’s environmental geology class was one of the last field trip groups to visit Mount St. Helens in late September before increased volcanic activity closed the Johnston Ridge Observatory overlooking the mountain. “The Pacific Northwest is a geologist’s paradise,” says Safran, assistant professor of geological science. “My students get a good sense of that from being out in it and drawing on nearby examples.”
