For the third year in a row, Lewis & Clark law students reached the national finals of the Merhige National Environmental Negotiation Competition held at the University of Richmond in Virginia in March. This year’s team members Jacob Bush (2L), Brook Detterman (2L), Ryan Phillips (3L) and Ashley Yorra (3L) all performed very well in this year's competition. With the assistance of their teammates, Ryan and Jake won their semifinal and final rounds, achieving second place overall.
In the five years L&C has participated in Merhige, its teams have gone to the semifinals four times and the finals three times. The Merhige competition encourages efficient and amicable resolution of disputes in each round of competition by providing only 25 minutes for the teams to reach agreement on several disputed issues.
