Academy of American Poets Poetry Prize Award
The Department of English is proud to announce that Caitlin Tyler and Ryan Bruno were selected co-winners for the 2006 Academy of American Poets Poetry Prize Award Contest. In recognition of their outstanding contribution to the contest, Honorable Mention was awarded to Rob Hopkinson and James Lindsay. The Academy of American Poets is a national non-profit organization devoted to stimulating interest in American Poetry through fellowships and public programs. The Poetry Prize Contest is held at 177 undergraduate institutions annually. The results are also reported to the Academy and all the winners will be listed in the summer issue of the Academy's journal, American Poet. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jason Robertson 2006 Dixon Award Winner
Jason's project was entitled Spenser's Reformation: Researching Iconoclasm and Literature in London. The Dixon Award was set-up to help fund extracurricular educational experiences to enhance a student's field of study. It was established by the Dixon Family Foundation through the efforts of two alumni, Hillary and Adam Dixon. It was first awarded in 2003 to Ariel Holman, in 2004 to Stasia Honnold and in 2005 to Jason Simms. It will continue to be given to one junior English major each year until 2007. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Katharine Hart - Newest member of the Pamlin Society Katharine Hart, from Philadelphia, Penn., is a double-major in English and History. A summer internship working with academically challenged second-graders at Philadelphia’s Belmont Charter School led her to begin exploring careers that will blend her own educational experiences with those of students in diverse neighborhoods. Hart is an active member of Lewis & Clark’s crew team. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jessica Montgomery wins the Rogers scholarship for second time! Returning Rogers scholar Jessica Montgomery ’06 is a double major in religious studies and English. She is a dean’s scholar, Hewlett-Packard scholar, Miller grant recipient, and an accomplished musician and composer. Her original compositions have aired on radio stations in her hometown of Fort Collins, Colo., and she has performed them at Lewis & Clark events, religious services, and benefit concerts. Montgomery also plays piano, clarinet, guitar, and saxophone, and writes short stories and poetry. Over the summer, she served as a resident assistant for a Lewis & Clark program for high school students interested in writing. She teaches piano lessons and has worked in Lewis & Clark’s Graduate School of Education and Counseling’s Northwest Writing Institute, registrar’s office, and educational leadership program. Montgomery hopes to pursue a master’s degree in religious sociology/psychology, and may explore teaching and doctoral studies.
