Programs and Requirements

The Department of English aquaints students with a wide range of English and American literature from a variety of perspectives. English courses share the important overall College goal of helping students read, think, speak, and write critically.

The department has a strong commitment to the teaching of writing in its literature courses. In addition, courses in creative writing provide an opportunity for majors interested in writing to develop their skills to an advanced level. Some of the creative writing courses also satisfy the College's Creative Arts requirement.
