Lewis & Clark Intercultural Network for Connecting Students

What is LINCS?

The Lewis and Clark Intercultural Network for Connecting Students (LINCS) is a peer-mentorship program focusing on diversity and retention. The program helps incoming students of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds adjust to college. All entering students are invited to participate in the LINCS program.

LINCS pairs first-year students with successful returning students. The program provides opportunities for new students to connect with resources on campus and develop relationships with Lewis & Clark faculty, staff, and students. Campus LINCS gain mentoring experience and a deeper understanding of college resources.

New LINCS meet their Campus LINC during New Student Orientation when the LINCS program hosts a reception and welcome event. New LINCS will also have weekly contact with their Campus LINC, in addition to regularly scheduled programs and events throughout the academic year. Previous programs have included information on cultural awareness and identity, time management, summer internship opportunities, and dinner meetings with faculty and administrators on the campus.

How do I become a LINC?

All new students receive a letter of invitation to participate in the LINCS program before they arrive on campus.

Who can be a Campus LINC?

Any currently enrolled, full-time undergraduate student at Lewis & Clark College can apply to be a Campus LINC. We are looking for dedicated, well-rounded students who are interested in helping new students of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds transition to life here at Lewis & Clark. Any returning sophomore, junior, or senior is welcome to apply to be a Campus LINC.

What does a Campus LINC have to do?

Campus LINCS must make a commitment to the LINCS Program and to their New LINC(s). This means that a Campus LINC must:

  • Attend a commitment meeting to get information, ask questions about resources, etc.
  • Attend the Campus LINCS Training.
  • Regular check-ins with the Director and Program Coordinator during the academic year.
  • Participate in events and programs sponsored by LINCS (except when you have class or practice.)
  • Maintain contact with their LINC(s) at least once a week (for example, email/phone/ meeting during meals/etc.)
  • Notify the Director and/or Program Coordinator if difficulties occur with their LINC(s) (for example, academic or personal issues, etc.)
  • Notify the Director and/or Program Coordinator if they are not satisfied with their LINC relationship.
  • Remain in good academic standing (maintain a Minimum Cumulative GPA of 2.50).
