Capital expenditures are typically classified into four general categories: equipment, facility renewal, facility adaptation, and new construction.
Operations projects include small campus & residence hall scheduled or corrective cyclical renewal projects, which are required to restore the existing functional use of a building and/or grounds.
The crucial difference between capital expenditures and facility/operations maintenance is project size.
