Bequests
A bequest to Lewis & Clark College may be an unrestricted gift that supports the general purposes of the College as a whole, or a restricted gift for a specific purpose, such as a scholarship, or an academic department or program. Bequests may be used to establish an endowed fund in support of a named scholarship, professorship, or chair. Bequests are the single largest source of funds for the College’s endowment. A bequest to Lewis & Clark for whatever purpose should be made payable to Lewis & Clark College, an Oregon corporation. This is the legal name of the corporate body. The bequest may then provide that it shall be used for general purposes or a specified purpose. Unrestricted Bequest
Unrestricted gift by bequest:
I give and bequeath to Lewis & Clark College, an Oregon Corporation located at Portland, Oregon, [written dollar amount, or percentage of the estate, or description of property], as an unrestricted gift.
Bequest for general endowment:
I give and bequeath to Lewis & Clark College, an Oregon Corporation located at Portland, Oregon, [written dollar amount, or percentage of the estate, or description of property], which shall be added to the general, unrestricted permanent endowment funds of the College so that the income derived therefrom may be used for general College purposes.
Restricted Bequest
Bequest for a specific purpose:
I give and bequeath to Lewis & Clark College, an Oregon Corporation located at Portland, Oregon, [written dollar amount, or percentage of the estate, or description of property],the principal and any income of which is to be used at the discretion of the Trustees of Lewis & Clark College for [specific purpose], or in the event that such use shall in the judgment of the Trustees of Lewis & Clark College become impractical, then for such purpose as the Trustees of Lewis & Clark College at their discretion shall determine.
Bequest for perpetuating the annual gift:
I give and bequeath to Lewis & Clark College, an Oregon Corporation located at Portland, Oregon, [written dollar amount, or percentage of the estate or description of property], the principal of which shall be invested and reinvested in such manner as the Trustees of Lewis & Clark College deem best, the income to be used at the discretion of the Trustees of Lewis & Clark College for its general purposes, and said income to be recorded with respect to the testator and the Class of [year], for the Annual Giving Program of Lewis & Clark College.
Residuary Bequest
Unrestricted residuary bequest:
I give, devise, and bequeath to Lewis & Clark College, an Oregon corporation located at Portland, Oregon, the rest and residue of my estate, to be applied to the general purposes of the College.
