Tenure-Track Professor: Rhetoric and Public Address / Director of Forensics

Department of Communication

The Lewis & Clark College Department of Communication invites applications for a tenure-track position in Rhetoric and Public Address beginning Fall 2009. In addition to teaching three courses a year, the successful candidate will also direct a nationally competitive debate and speech program. Teaching areas might include argumentation, public speaking, rhetorical theory/criticism or other subjects, depending on expertise. As director of forensics, the candidate will oversee two part-time student assistants and a comprehensive national program in parliamentary debate and individual events. A PhD is required at the time of appointment. Potential for excellent teaching and research are essential, and willingness to engage in interdisciplinary programs and collaborative research with students is encouraged.

Please include (l) a curriculum vitae; (2) letter of application that includes a statement of educational philosophy, teaching experience, research interests, and a statement of forensics philosophy and experience; (3) evidence of teaching effectiveness and ability to direct forensics; (4) samples of scholarship; (5) three letters of recommendation under separate cover; and (6) graduate school transcripts.
