Opening a Bank Account

One of the things you will want to do soon after arriving on campus is to open a bank account, usually a "checking account" or a "savings account." Below is a list of information you will need to speed the process of opening an account. This information is based on the requirements for the banks located nearest the Lewis & Clark campus.

At the Bank, You Will Need

1. Your full name, home address, home telephone number, your campus telephone number, and your college address. (Your campus box number will be given to you before or soon after your arrival).
2. Two pieces of identification: Acceptable ID includes, your passport, your Lewis & Clark ID card, birth certificate (acceptable at some banks), Oregon driver's license, or a letter from International Students and Scholars.
3. A letter from your home bank confirming that you have a good banking history. (Most of the banks above will not require this letter in order to open a new account for a student).
4. Your mother's maiden name.

In order to open an account, your funds must be in cash, in travelers checks, or in the form of a check that is payable through a U.S. bank.

For your convenience, after you have opened a local account, the Lewis & Clark Cashier's Office will cash your personal check up to $100 if you present a valid Lewis & Clark ID card.

Directions By Car

• From any campus gate, turn right onto Palatine Hill Road.
• Follow S.W. Palatine Hill Road past the Griswold Stadium and angle left onto SW Palater.
• Continue down the hill, going around the traffic circle, to the first stop light. SW Palater becomes SW Terwilliger Blvd.
• Continue straight on SW Terwilliger Blvd through the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th traffic lights.
• The 5th traffic light is at the far end of the Terwilliger Bridge, at the intersection of SW Terwilliger and SW Barbur Blvd.

For US Bank:

• (Follow the directions above)
• As you approach the 5th traffic light, stay in the right hand lane.
• Go straight through the intersection and turn into the US Bank parking lot, on your right.

For Wells Fargo Bank:

• (Follow the directions above)
• As you approach the 5th traffic light, stay in the left hand lane
• Turn left on to SW Barbur Blvd. and continue past Fred Meyer's store.
• Just past Kentucky Fried Chicken, turn right onto SW 13th.
• Wells Fargo will be on your left.

For Washington Mutual Bank:

• (Follow the directions above)
• As you approach the 5th traffic light, stay in the left lane.
• Turn left on to SW Barbur Blvd and continue to the Fred Meyer Store.
• Washington Mutual is inside the Fred Meyer store.

For Bank of America:

• As you approach the 5th traffic light, stay in the left hand lane.
• Turn left on to SW Barbur Blvd. and stay in the right hand lane.
• At the next intersection, turn right onto Bertha Blvd.
• Continue on Bertha Blvd.
• At the second light on Bertha Blvd. (at intersection of Bertha and Vermont), go straight through the intersection, and then take the first angled road to the right.
• You will come to a traffic light. Turn right onto Capitol Highway
• Bank of America is about 75 yards up Capitol Highway on the left.

Directions By Bus

• From the campus, take either Bus #39 or the L&C Shuttle to Fred Meyer store.
• Orient yourself by walking to the main front door of the Fred Meyer Store. As you face away from the store, see the directions below

US Bank:

• (Follow the directions above)
• US Bank will be down the street to your left about 150 yards, at the second intersection.

Wells Fargo Bank:

• (Follow the directions above)
• Wells Fargo Bank will be up the street to your right, just past Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Washington Mutual Bank:

• (Follow the directions above)
• Walk inside the front door of Fred Meyers store. Washington Mutual is inside Fred Meyer, down the hallway to the left.
