New Student Orientation For International Students and TCKs Fall 2008
NOTE: Continuing students who plan to help with International Student/TCK Orientation should plan to move into residence halls on Sunday, August 24, 2008. That evening from 7:00 to 8:30 pm there will be a meeting/orientation for all student volunteers in the Gray Room of Templeton Center.
Monday,
August 25, 2008 9 a.m.-5
p.m.
- New students arrive throughout the day.
Transportation provided by International Students and Scholars (ISS) and RAZ Transportation. L&C Drivers:
Greg Caldwell/ISS, Brian White/ISS, and others to be announced. RAZ transportation will provide a coach to meet Northwest Airlines Flight 6 from Tokyo at 8:40 am. (Confirmation #:14962. Emergency TEL: 503-684-3323 X777 or X778).
- Students arriving by air on this day may move
to campus upon arrival.
- Students staying in hotels may move to campus
between 9:30-11:45 am.
- Students living with friends or relatives in
Portland should move to campus between 2:00 - 4:00
pm.
- Commuter students staying on campus for
orientation may move in the following day
(Tuesday, August 26). This is only for students who have made reservations with International Students and Scholars.
- Students report to International Students and Scholars
to pick up packets, meal cards, room
assignments, keys, access cards,
linen (if needed), room/telephone list, and emergency list.
- Students settle into their rooms. The following student volunteers will be on hand to help students move into their rooms: Melanie Rama/Switzerland/TCK, Hitomi Masui/Japan, Hong Loon Yoong/Malaysia/Singapore/TCK, Anne Scheiman/US/Japan/TCK, Hae Hee Joung/Korea/Nepal/TCK, Daniel Bae/Korea/South Africa/TCK, Toni Ruotsalainen/Finland, Mari Tsubota/Japan, Rachael Molitor/US/Africa/TCK, Shannon Wu/China/Japan/TCK, Andrew Yip/Hong Kong, Shawn Williams-Brown/US/Japan/TCK, Bakheet Amrri/Saudi Arabia, and Eve Barker/US/Afghanistan/TCK.
- Students can visit International Students and Scholars to call home and inform parents of safe
arrival.
- Snacks will be available at ISS.
- Students take ID card pictures. Volunteers Melanie Rama, Hong Loon Yoong and Toni Petri Ruotsalainen can accompany students to Campus Safety.
11:45 a.m.-1:00
p.m. Lunch for students who have arrived. Toni Ruotsalainen, Hitomi Masui, Shannon Wu, Andrew Yip and three NSO (New
Student Orientation) volunteers will meet new students at the door
of Fields Dining Room at 11:45 a.m. to orient them to the dining room. Templeton
Student Center, Fields Dining Room.
5:00
p.m. Dinner. Hosts Hae Hee Joung, Shawn Williams-Brown, Rachael Molitor and Daniel Bae will meet new students at the door of Fields Dining
Room at 5:00 p.m. to orient them to the dining room. Three NSO volunteers will also assist. Templeton Student Center,
Fields Dining Room.
6:00
p.m. Tour of Campus to be led by
Shawn Williams-Brown, Hong Loon Yoong, and Andrew Yip. Three L&C NSO volunteers will assist. Students should bring an umbrella if it seems likely to rain. After the tour, proceed to Campus Safety for ID pictures.

Room).
7:00
p.m. ID cards--special time for international students and TCKs to get ID cards. Students should be sure to bring passports or some form of picture ID. Student volunteers are Hitomi Masui, Shannon Wu, Eve Barker, and Mari Tsubota.

8:30
p.m. Trip to Fred Meyer (Variety Store) OPTIONAL for last-minute needs. Three vans will be driven by Greg Caldwell, Brian White, and a current student. Student Volunteers: Shawn Williams-Brown and Hitomi Masui in vans and Eve Barker stationed at Templeton.
