Simran decided to look at Lewis & Clark College when a friend of hers mentioned that it was the perfect school “She was totally in love with it and said I had to apply.” Simran says she was introduced to the campus and college via e-mail correspondence with two current students from L&C. Later a meeting was set up with a member of the Sri Lankan Parliament who was an L&C graduate. “That was a big thing for me to meet someone who was a member of Parliament and hear about how he had been a student at L&C.” In the end Simran chose to come to Lewis & Clark College because it had been so highly rated by students, because the small community was the right size and because L&C offered a substantial amount of financial aid to international students.

While at L&C Simran has been involved with International Students of Lewis & Clark College (ISLC), been an admissions lunch host and worked with both the cultural and international fairs. But more than anything Simran likes to dance! Her dancing has lead her to be part of the annual Luau performances as well as a continuing participant in the Dance Extravaganza This year she is organizing a Dance Team which will be putting on different events and dances. “It’s about getting together and doing what we love, just dancing for fun, getting a workout or partying.”

Simran also dedicates a significant amount of time to her economics major and her communications minor. However, when asked about her favorite classes she listed Introduction to Psychology and Introduction to World Music. “They just teach you so many cool facts and you never know when you’ll need them.” Simran also enjoys the small class sizes and the approachability of the professors. “The teacher-student relationship is so important. It helps to know that you can ask questions and bring up any problems you have.”

In her free time Simran likes to walk around, whether it’s on campus or off exploring Portland. “Portland is great! There are all these places I want to go to. The public transportation is so easy, especially when you need to get somewhere alone.”Yet, Simran does not mind staying on campus. “The campus is gorgeous even if you’re having a bad day. It’s delightful all the time!”
