Professional Background

Currently the Academic Relations Manager (Law & Economics) for Microsoft in Washington state, Manne also serves as Lecturer in Law for Lewis & Clark Law School. In this capacity he lends his expertise to various law school endeavors.

Before joining Microsoft, Manne spent three years as an Assistant Professor at the law school. Immediately prior to joining the faculty in 2003, he practiced law at Latham & Watkins in Washington, DC, where he specialized in antitrust litigation and counseling. He also practiced in the areas of bankruptcy and commercial litigation and did some appellate work. Before private practice Manne was a Bigelow Fellow at the University of Chicago Law School, an Olin Fellow at the University of Virginia School of Law and a law clerk to Judge Morris S. Arnold of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. While clerking he taught a seminar on Law & Literature at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

During law school Manne was a research assistant to Judge Richard Posner, Comment Editor of the University of Chicago Law School Roundtable and a Staff Member of the University of Chicago Legal Forum. Among his other vocational pursuits was a brief stint at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. His research has focused broadly on the economic implications of legal constraints on business organizations, particularly in the contexts of antitrust, nonprofit organizations and international law. Manne is a member of the Virginia and District of Columbia bars, as well as the Bar of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He is also a member of the American Law and Economics Association and serves on the screening committee for the American Bar Association's Silver Gavel Awards.
