Professional Background
Professor McClard is the Associate Director of the National Crime Victim Law Institute and the Director of the Crime Victim Litigation Clinic, working with students to litigate on behalf of crime victims nationwide. Before joining the faculty in 2001, she served as legal counsel for the Oregon Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence and prior to that was legal counsel for the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault. While practicing in Illinois, she acted as legislative consultant for Planned Parenthood of East Central Illinois, and Supervising Attorney for the Illinois Clemency Project for Battered Women. After completing her studies in political science at the University of Georgia, she worked as a journalist in Monrovia, Liberia and as a General Field Assistant in McMurdo Station, Antarctica.
Professor McClard is a nationally recognized speaker and trainer on improving the criminal justice system's response to sexual assault survivors. She is a member of the bar in both Illinois and Oregon.
