Lifetime E-mail Forwarding Q&A
What is lifetime e-mail forwarding?
In the coming years, you'll change jobs and ISP's often. Every time you do, you'll change e-mail addresses – and you'll have to notify everyone you know. With your lifetime e-mail forwarding address from L&C, you won't have to do that. Your e-mail will be forwarded to your job or ISP account. Just give everyone you know your lifetime e-mail address, and they'll always be in touch. Treat us like the postmaster general. When your job or ISP changes, let us know, and all your e-mail will be forwarded to your new e-mail address.
Lifetime e-mail forwarding is a benefit for alumni who already have an e-mail address. It is a unique combination of your name and class year, and is no longer than 8 characters. An example of a lifetime e-mail forwarding address would be jones91@lawalumni.lclark.edu.
How does it work?
When an e-mail is sent to your lifetime e-mail forwarding address, it passes through the servers at Lewis & Clark Law School before it is sent to your e-mail address. When the e-mail reaches our server, it passes through a virus screen and is then sent to the e-mail address you have in the Law School database.
Why should I use lifetime e-mail forwarding?
Give your lifetime e-mail forwarding address to your classmates, list serves, and online accounts. If you have to change your e-mail address, you only have to notify L&C– your friends, family, and accounts can still reach you because they can send e-mail to your lifetime e-mail forwarding address.
How can I access my account?
There is no need to access your account because your e-mail will be forwarded to the e-mail address you have on file with the Law School. You can change the setting on your e-mail account to look like your messages are coming from your lifetime e-mail forwarding address by changing your outgoing mail SMTP to your lifetime e-mail forwarding address.
How do I activate my account?
All alumni have a lifetime e-mail forwarding address. There is no need to "activate" the address. If we do not have an e-mail address for you in our database, you will not receive e-mails sent to your lifetime e-mail forwarding address.
Who do I contact when I change e-mail addresses?
Please send us your e-mail address when your e-mail address changes. This can happen when you change jobs, ISPs, or e-mail hosts. To update your information, call 503-768-6607, e-mail lawalum@lclark.edu, or submit your information online at: http://www.lclark. edu/dept/lawalum/ updateform.html.
What about spam?
You may receive spammed e-mail messages if your e-mail address is posted on the web. There are people and software that collect and store e-mail addresses found online to be used for e-mail solicitations and mass e-mailings.
