Employment Discrimination

This class examines the federal laws governing employment discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, citizenship, religion, age and disability. The course will explore the policy grounds for employment discrimination laws and the various legal models created to address discrimination, including individual disparate treatment, systemic disparate treatment, disparate impact, harassment, affirmative action, and reasonable accommodation. Statutory coverage will include: Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Civil Rights Act of 1991, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Immigration Reform and Control Act, and 42 U.S.C. § 1981.
