Environmental Negotiation and Mediation Seminar*
This seminar is designed to provide students with practical experience in negotiation and mediation techniques, within the context of complex environmental and public policy disputes. Students will learn two-party and multi-party negotiation and mediation theory and practice. Grading is based on participation in in-class exercises, class discussion, and written products. This seminar may be counted toward the Certificate in Environmental & Natural Resources Law. The writing component does not apply towards an “A” or “B” paper, but a student may opt to write a paper in addition to fulfilling all other course requirements.
Students who wish to participate in the annual Merhige National Environmental Negotiation Competition, held each spring at the University of Richmond in Virginia, may compete in an in-school competition held in late fall. The seminar is not a prerequisite for the in-school competition.
* Typically offered every other year
