Mining and Mineral Law**

An examination of the laws governing the exploration for and development of mineral resources, including in particular the federal 1872 Mining Act, the 1920 Mineral Leasing Act, and the 1977 Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act. The course will consider the interaction of federal and state laws and explore the integration of newer environmental controls with older mineral resources allocation schemes. Evaluation will be by exam.
