Jurisprudence: Law and Justice **


Description:

What is “justice”? What is “law”? What is the relationship between the two concepts? In this seminar, we will consider these questions through an examination of major texts in western legal philosophy. Topics include natural law and natural rights theory, positivism, utilitarianism, legal realism, critical legal studies, and feminist theory. Texts by, among others, Aristotle, Hobbes, Locke, Kant, Mill, Holmes, Llewellyn, Hart, Rawls, Dworkin, Kennedy, MacKinnon. Paper required (not for A paper credits; B paper only).

Meets the B writing requirement.
