School of Law Law School Registrar Course Schedule European Union Law Seminar

European Union Law Seminar*

Description:

This seminar is in two parts: the first being an examination of the fundamentals of EU law. This examination will encompass much of the basic law of the European institutions including such topics as the history and development of European integration up to and including the Convention on the Future of European Union; the European institutions; Community legislation and policy making; the nature of EC law (direct-effect); the relationship between EC law and national law (supremacy); and the general principles of EC law. After this scene-setting, the second part of the seminar will involve discussion of student-selected issues at student-led sessions. As the evaluation will be by means of a paper, each student will be required to produce a paper on a topic in European law of his/her choice, subject to approval; it is expected that each student’s presentation will be on the topic of his/her paper. This seminar is also available for A and B papers, but A paper candidates must submit an outline by the end of September and a draft by Thanksgiving.

*Offered every other year
