Clinical Internship Seminar: Federal Indian Law
Description:
The Federal Indian Law Internship provides students with an opportunity to develop specific practical lawyering skills as well as an increased understanding of the practice of Indian Law. Each placement involves a mix of assignments under attorney supervision. Students are expected to develop a written product of moderate complexity and length for the placement organization.
Students will be placed in legal settings approved by the professor and will meet weekly with the professor to discuss issues and materials related to the placement. Students are expected to work in their placements at least 10 hours per week, plus attend a weekly two hour seminar with the professor. Placements are expected in the area of Indian health issues, fishing rights, general tribal issues, and with private attorneys serving tribal and individual Indian clients.
This is a 3 credit course graded on a credit/no credit basis. Enrollment is limited. Applicants for this class are screened through a brief interview process. Efforts will be made to match students' interests and qualifications with an appropriate placement. To apply, submit a one page statement describing why you wish to take the course, current resume and law school transcript and to the Registrar’s office by the deadline date for registration.
Students will not be compensated for work performed in connection with a CIS placement.
