Clinical Internship Seminar: Judicial

This seminar is limited to 10 students who have completed their first year of law school. During the Fall semester, students will attend a weekly two-hour seminar class. The seminar will concentrate on drafting exercises and discussions pertaining to the work of judicial clerks and the operation of the courts, as well as rules of civil procedure and appellate procedure. Substantive issues to be discussed and included in the drafting exercises include issues that will come before the courts, such as constitutional and evidentiary issues. During the Spring semester, students will work a minimum of 10 hours per week for judges in courts approved by the instructors. As part of the internship experience, students will be expected to draft written products demonstrating an understanding of judicial opinion drafting. Students will be asked about preferences for particular courts, however students understand that instructors shall have total discretion over court assignments.

Courts Students May be Assigned To: Oregon Supreme Court, Oregon Tax Court, U.S. District Court, Federal Bankruptcy Court. Attempts will be made to assign students to the courts they are most interested in, but instructors reserve the right to assign students to courts where they have openings.

Registration: Applicants for this seminar will be screened through an interview process. To apply, submit a cover letter and resume to the Registrar by the registration deadline. In the cover letter, students should describe the basis for their interest in the seminar.

Credits: Total of 3 credits: 2 for fall and 1 for spring

Pre-Requisites: Students must have taken evidence or be currently enrolled in evidence to qualify.
