The Lewis & Clark Sustainability Council

The Lewis & Clark Sustainability Council (LCSC) is a group of students, faculty and staff drawn from the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Law, and Graduate School of Education and Counseling. We support deep learning, vigorous exchange, wise planning, and effective action dedicated to sustaining the things we value as a community. The goal of the LCSC is to promote sustainability using a "triple-bottom-line" or "three legged stool approach," emphasizing how economic, social, and environmental factors come together at Lewis & Clark. Our focus is rooted in our campus home, but stretches to embrace the local, regional, and international connections we have with other communities. For more information about these sustainability concepts, please visit our Moodle site.

The LCSC was formed in the late 1990’s as the Lewis & Clark Environmental Council, and was founded to promote wise environmental stewardship on campus. It was later renamed the Sustainability Council, yet like many campus sustainability efforts maintained a primary concern with environmental issues. Mindful that sustainability is more than environmental stewardship, we are now expanding to include the hopes and concerns of others in our community.

The LCSC consists of interested students, staff and faculty from the three campuses of Lewis & Clark College. We welcome those from Lewis & Clark who wish to participate and form partnerships with other organizations on campus, so that together we can promote sustainability in its fullest sense. We also welcome alliances with similarly-inclined organizations on other college campuses and in the greater Portland area.
