Mathematics Education at Lewis & Clark College
Lewis & Clark College prepares mathematics teachers within a tradition of liberal arts study. We offer a distinctive course of study, premiere classroom and local resources, and an outstanding faculty. Our graduates make thoughtful decisions in the face of ethical and organizational dilemmas of schooling in order to serve all students well. We prepare mathematics teachers to:
- Present mathematics as a coherent, reasoned, human activity
- Plan for conjecture, puzzlement, and surprise as part of the natural ecology of learning
- Honor the diversity of students' ideas and approaches
- Encourage wonder
