DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS

1. Review the Fall Recruiting Program website.

The web is the “home” of our Fall Recruiting Program and we encourage you to bookmark it. It houses the searchable employer schedule, the on-line Student Registration Form (which must be completed before you can participate in the program), links to information on government honors programs and fellowships, and other information we expect will be very useful to you as you participate in the fall program.

2. Register to attend the Success Strategies Workshop or one of the mandatory Fall Recruiting Program overview sessions.

In order to participate in the Fall Recruiting Program, you are required to attend a half-hour introduction course, regardless of whether you attended the course last year, as there are many new procedures to the Fall Recruiting Program. You can either attend the Success Strategies Workshop on Wednesday, August 15th, or one of the sessions on Tuesday, August 21st at 5:30 pm, or Tuesday, August 29th at noon. Again, attending an overview session is mandatory and if you do not attend one of these classes, you will not be allowed to participate in the Fall Recruiting Program (unless you make arrangements with the Career Services Office prior to submitting your application materials for a specified deadline). To register for a session, go to our Calendar of Events.

3. Complete the on-line Student Registration Form.

Go to the Fall Recruiting Program website and complete the on-line Student Registration Form as soon as you can. Please be sure to fill in the Consent Section, found at the bottom of the form.

4. Read and/or review Chapters 1, 4, 5, & 7 of your Career Services Handbook.

Chapter 1 (Policies and Procedures), Chapter 4 (Application Materials), Chapter 5 (Interviewing Skills), and Chapter 7 (Fall Recruiting Program) in your Career Services Handbook contain a wealth of important information.

5. Carefully review our on-line Fall Recruiting Program employer schedule.

Study the Participating Employer Schedule on-line. You will be able to search the recruiting information based on a variety of criteria or view the entire list of participating employers for On-Campus Interviewing or for Recruit by Mail. The information will give you deadlines for application materials, information on employers and the positions they are hiring for. Begin now to research them. In addition to the on-line information, there are Fall 2007 Recruiting Program binders in the Career Services Resources Library with information on the participating employers. As you review the employers’ information, be sure to note in your calendar the deadlines for each employer you are interested in, as well as the date they will be on-campus to interview, if applicable. Also, please remember that new employers are being added all the time so check back often!

As you review the recruiting information, note that many of the employers will be doing “Recruit by Mail” – meaning they will not be visiting our campus to conduct interviews. It is particularly important with these employers that you carefully review each firm’s postings for directions on how they want you to submit your materials. Many want you to submit them to Career Services by a specific deadline; others want you to submit them directly to the employer. You can also find information about these firms on our website and in the Fall Recruiting Program binders in the Career Services Resources Library.

6. Assemble application materials for each employer you want to apply to.

Please read through our Application Materials web page now as there are several things you should do way in advance of the employer deadlines. Please be sure to have your materials reviewed by Career Services before you submit them.

7. Submit materials on or before each employers stated deadline.

Our participating employers set their deadlines and you must comply with them, just as you would a court deadline. Employers and our office count on you meeting the deadlines and, unfortunately, failure to do so automatically excludes you from that particular firm’s on-campus hiring process. Career Services posts all deadlines for materials submission as they are received from employers. Once again, almost all deadlines will be on Friday afternoons at 4 pm. This means that your application materials must be submitted by the 4 pm deadline for the specific employer, NOT slipped under the door by that time. Absolutely NO late applications will be allowed, so be sure to plan ahead!

8. Continue to carefully check the Fall Recruiting Program website, as well as your email and our Windows of Opportunity, for new employers and updated information.

Employers are added to our schedule, information on interview dates changes, etc. You need to be sure to stay informed during this busy time. We will do our best to be sure you are notified of all changes, but we also expect you to be sure to check the website, your email, and our windows on a regular (preferably, daily) basis.

9. When selected for an interview, sign-up promptly for an interview time.

After you submit your application materials (on or before the employers deadline), we assemble all the materials submitted and send them immediately to the employer. For employers who will be coming on campus to interview, the employer then has a short period of time (usually less than a week) to review the materials and make selections among the applicants for interviews. As soon as we receive the employer’s selection, we will send out an email message to the students who were selected for an interview, advising them to select an interview time slot on the employer’s on campus interview date. Once you make that selection, you are obligated to attend your interview at that time. If you were not selected for an interview, we will send you an email message to that effect. Employers who will not be visiting campus will notify students directly about arrangements for interviews.

10. Without fail, attend your schedule interview(s).

Perhaps it goes without saying, but be sure to attend your scheduled interviews! Your professional reputation is at stake, as is the reputation of the Law School. If, for any reason, you believe you will not be able to attend an interview, you must notify Vicki Nelson, Assistant Director/Fall Recruiting Program Coordinator, immediately.

FINAL REMINDER

Don't forget to have your application materials reviewed by Career Services well in advance of any application deadlines. You may schedule an individual appointment, drop off your materials for review or email them to the main Career Services email account (lscs@lclark.edu)
