An Externship is an opportunity for students to earn a full semester's or summer's worth of academic credit by working full time (without pay) under the guidance of a practicing attorney at a carefully selected placement with a federal or state appellate court judge, public interest or non-profit agency, government agency, or corporate in-house counsel. The full semester Externship requires 14 to 17 weeks of experience, participation in a classroom component (6 hours prior to the placement, 20 hours during the placement, and 2 hours following return from placement), writing a substantial paper and keeping a journal. A summer Externship must be at least 10 weeks long. Students are required to abide by all of Lewis and Clark Law School's Externship requirements and must submitted a completed application by the designated deadline date for specific externship.
