Imaginative Writing: Short Paths to Truth with Joanne Mulcahy
Thursdays: May 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29, 2008 - 5:30 - 8:30pm
Charles Simic calls them "memory fragments"; other writers speak of "short essays" or simply "shorts." The short form essay is, like flash fiction and poetry, complete in itself or it may be part of a larger structure. In this workshop, we'll explore this increasingly popular form. We'll read selections from several anthologies, and we'll write brief essays, anecdotes, portraits, commentary, and travelogue. Each week, we'll look at a different structure and consider the work of writers in the workshop. All writers are welcome, whether you're in the midst of a work in progress or simply want to explore writing "in miniature" for yourself or with your students.
