“Writing today is not a frill for a few, but an essential skill for the many.” The National Commission on Writing
The Oregon Writing Project, a collaboration program between Lewis & Clark and area schools, offers programs designed to improve the writing of Oregon's K-12 students and teachers. For over 20 years, OWP has been a vital resource for teachers across the content areas who recognize the value of using writing as a means of thinking, exploring, and increasing academic achievement with students. The Invitational Summer Institute, OWP's centerpiece offering, provides teachers with time and space to write while examining how to prepare students to:
- Write in all subjects with clarity and style;
- Seek deeper and more critical understanding of writing and the world;
- Wake up their own voice and authority;
- Take command of their own learning;
- Manage portfolios and other exhibition forms.
The OWP also has been a model of professional development, teacher leadership and school reform. Numerous flexible programs, including district-wide inservices, are available for students, teachers, and administrators. Through our links, please explore course and professional development offerings, or contact the site director, Linda Christensen, for more information. Contact Information
