OWP: Teaching Conventions:
Punctuation, Grammar, Spelling
"Most errors happen for a reason, and it is impossible to correct such errors simply by noting their existence." - Michael W. Smith and Jeffrey D. Wilhelm, Getting it Right Description: In this five-week class teachers will analyze the art and the science of teaching conventions in effective and meaningful ways for grade 2-6 students. Teachers will discover practical methods for integrating the teaching of conventions into their reading and writing workshops. The class will emphasize the value of using literature as a source for examples, examining student writing to determine their patterns of errors, and teaching students to self-correct during the editing process.
