Calendar for Applying for Law School Admission

----- Free Full Practice LSAT - From the Law School Admission Council Website -----

April-June of the year previous to attendance

In April, sign up for June LSAT. Take the June LSAT.

August-October

1. Attend a meeting of the Pre-Law Society, and receive the latest law school information.

2. By the middle of August, sign up for the September/October LSAT if you haven't taken the LSAT, or if you need to retake the LSAT.

3. Sign up for the LSDAS using the LSAT/LSDAS application bulletin. Keep your cancelled check when you get it back.

4. You may make an appointment to consult with a pre-law advisor. Before arriving, please bring a transcript, a tentative list of law schools you are considering, and a first draft of your personal statement.

5. Using a postcard, write to every school in which you have any interest, asking for a bulletin and application materials, including a financial aid application. Optionally, most law schools enable you to download these forms from their websites.

6. After receiving your application forms, write your essay. If you wish, a pre-law advisor will read the essay and make suggestions.

October-November

1. Give recommendation forms to faculty you have selected. You should give recommenders a copy of your transcript, your personal statement and several points about you that you wish them to make. Please give the professors all the letters you want them to do at one time.

2. Send applications in by the end of November.

December

If you are applying for financial aid, get the FAFSA form. Fill it out, and mail it in. Keep a copy of this form as filled out.

January-February

With a letter, or by phone, monitor your files at every law school to which you have applied to make sure all items, LSDAS reports, recommendations, etc. are in and your file is complete. If any item is not in, contact the appropriate agency/person.

March

When you have been accepted to a school that you wish to attend, notify other schools that have accepted you that you will not be attending.

April

1. Pay deposit to school you will be attending.

2. Order a final transcript from the Registrar's Office (showing graduation date) to be sent to the law school you will attend.

3. Let your advisor know about your final decision.
