National Student Awards
Rhodes Scholarship
The Rhodes Scholarships, the oldest international fellowships, were initiated after the death of Cecil Rhodes in 1902, and bring outstanding students from many countries around the world to the University of Oxford. The first American Scholars were elected in 1904.

Barry M. Goldwater Scholarships
The Goldwater Foundation is a federally endowed agency established in 1986. The scholarship program honors the late Sen. Barry M. Goldwater and encourages outstanding students to pursue careers in mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering fields.

Harry S. Truman Scholarships
The Truman Scholarship Foundation was established by Congress in 1975 as the federal memorial to President Harry S. Truman. The foundation awards scholarships for college students to attend graduate school in preparation for careers in government or elsewhere in public service. The activities of the foundation are supported by a special trust fund in the U.S. Treasury.

National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships
The Graduate Research Fellowship Program invests in graduate education for 1,000 diverse individuals who demonstrate their potential to successfully complete graduate degree programs in disciplines relevant to the mission of the National Science Foundation.

The James Madison Fellowship supports students who plan careers as social studies, U.S. government, and history teachers. It provides awards of $24,000. The fellowship is available for students who enter a master's program in education that permits a concentration in American history, American government, or social studies.

Morris K. Udall Scholarship
The Morris K. Udall Scholarship and Excellence in National Environmental Policy Foundation awards 80 merit-based scholarships of up to $5,000 to college sophomores and juniors who have demonstrated outstanding potential and a commitment to preserving, protecting or restoring environmental resources.

Andrew W. Mellon Fellowships
The Mellon Fellowship is designed to support students who plan to pursue a career in teaching and research at the university level. Eligible fields of study are: American studies, art history, classics, comparative literature, cultural anthropology, English literature, foreign language and literature, history, history and philosophy of science, musicology, philosophy, political science, and religious studies.

National Endowment for the Humanities Younger Scholar Award
These awards support individuals who wish to conduct summer research and writing projects in the humanities. Award recipients are expected to work full time for nine weeks during the summer, doing research and writing a paper under the close supervision of a humanities scholar. Awards are $2,500, which includes $500 for the project advisor.

Ford Foundation Fellowship
The Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program provides opportunities for advanced study to exceptional individuals who will use this education to become leaders in their respective fields, furthering development in their own countries and greater economic and social justice worldwide.

Fannie and John Hertz Foundation Fellowship
The Hertz Foundation Graduate Fellowship awards are based on merit, and consist of 25 tuition paid fellowships, plus $25,000 for graduate study toward a doctoral degree in application of physical sciences. Graduating seniors with a documented record of high scholastic performance, accomplishment in technical research or study, and appropriate moral and ethical values are eligible.

NCAA postgraduate scholarship
The National Collegiate Athletic Association awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships annually, 87 for men and 87 for women. The scholarships are awarded to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically, and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletics competition.

Blakemore Foundation Language Grant
Blakemore Freeman Fellowships are awarded for one year of advanced level language study in approved language programs in East or Southeast Asia. To be eligible for a grant, applicants must be pursuing an academic, professional or business career that involves the regular use of a modern East or Southeast Asian language, and have an undergraduate degree.

National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship
The Department of Defense created the National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship to help increase the number of U.S. citizens and nationals trained in science and engineering disciplines of military importance. Fellowships are awarded to individuals who have demonstrated ability and special aptitude for advanced training in science and engineering. Fellowships pay for three years of doctoral studies and provide a yearly stipend.

The Japan Foundation Japanese Studies Fellowship Program supports preeminent foreign scholars of Japanese Studies to provide opportunities to conduct research in Japan. The foundation has invited more than 5,000 scholars and researchers since its establishment in 1972.

The association is the largest professional association for student affairs administrators, faculty and graduate students, with over 11,000 members at 1,200 campuses, and representing 29 countries. Howard Hughes Medical Institute Predoctoral Fellowship in Biomedical Sciences
These fellowships are designed to promote excellence in biomedical research by supporting promising prospective researchers working towards understanding basic biological processes and disease mechanisms. Eighty fellowships are awarded annually with a stipend of $15,000, and $15,000 toward educational costs, renewable for up to five years.
