John Kroger joins law faculty
After four years as an organized-crime prosecutor in New York, John Kroger joined the law school faculty in January as an assistant professor. Kroger is a 1996 magna cum laude graduate from Harvard Law School. His professional career also includes significant political experience. Before graduating from Harvard, Kroger served as a senior policy adviser to the Clinton-Gore Presidential Transition team following the 1992 election.
PILP Auction raises $41,000
The 12th annual Public Interest Law Project (PILP) Auction was held February 22 at the law school. As in past years, the event included many interesting auction items, great food and beverages, and plenty of entertainment. Best of all, proceeds from the auction benefit PILP’s summer stipend program, which enables nonprofit organizations to hire Lewis & Clark students as summer law clerks.
Business and tax scholarships awarded
The law school has awarded upper-division merit scholarships to three members of the class of 2002 with an interest in tax and business law. Stephanie Hines and Marisa Rogoway have been named cowinners of this year’s Business and Tax Law Scholarship (the first time the award has been divided), and Matthew Swain has received the Tax Executives Institute Portland Chapter Scholarship.

The law school is organizing this year’s Alumni Day around a discussion of constitutional interpretation. The Honorable Anna Brown ’80, the Honorable Dennis Hubel ’76, the Honorable Robert E. Jones ’53, and the Honorable Diarmuid O’Scannlain will participate in a panel discussion moderated by William Funk, professor of law. Alumni may register for 1.5 CLE credits.
