Overview for New Transfer Students
WELCOME!
The Registrar's Office will send a "Statement of Transfer Credit" and registration instructions to your current email address as soon as possible after your deposit is received.
We want your first registration to be a good one and are concerned that our online registration system may not recognize that you have met some prerequisites for your LC fall courses. There may not be direct equivalencies at LC and/or we may have not yet received official transcripts for all your transfer work. Please contact Linda Quandt. She will help you get started.
General Information You must set up your LC email account in order to access online registration. Your LC email address will be the primary means of communication used by the Registrar's Office and many other offices on campus.
Your LC email account will also allow you access to WebAdvisor where you will register online and view your course schedules, grades and LC transcript. You will be able to access WebAdvisor within two business days of setting up your LC email account.
We want to emphasize the importance of studying the sections on requirements and policies in the College Catalog.
The "Statement of Transfer Credit" will indicate whether you will need to register for one of the Core Substitute Courses or if you will need to take Exploration and Discovery, Fall 2008 and/or Spring 2009.
As a transfer student you may want to read the general information on transfer credit, available on the blue bar on the Academic Advising homepage.

If you have taken a foreign language at your previous college and wish to continue with that language, you should register now for the next level (e.g., if you have taken one year of a language, then you should register for 201)> If you did not take a language in college and want to continue with a language you studied in high school, you will need to take the Foreign Language Examinations and must wait until August 30 to register for the course. If you want to study a language you have not previously studied, you should register for it this summer.
Read "Before Beginning the Online Registration Process" below and Online Registration Instructions prior to accessing WebAdvisor to select courses.
If you have questions about courses in your major or prerequisites for major courses, please email your Department Chair.
After August 30, additional changes must be made during the Add/Drop Period (first two weeks of the semester) by submitting a completed Add/Drop form to the Registrar's Office by the second Friday of the semester.
You may find the Academic Schedule Worksheet (PDF) a helpful tool in planning your fall schedule.
If, at any time you have a problem, do not hesitate to call the Registrar's Office, 503-768-7335 or email us (reg@lclark.edu).
I. REGISTRATION PROCEDURES FOR 2008 FALL SEMESTER
A. Registration for fall courses:
1. May 1 or as soon as you are in "paid" status, you may register for your courses by contacting Linda Quandt in the Registrar’s Office. Her phone number is 503-768-7332 and her email is quandt@lclark.edu.
2. You will be able to register throughout the summer, but we advise you to register early because class sizes are small and some classes fill quickly. Since first-year students will register beginning May 28, it is to your advantage to register before that date.
3. Transfer credit: The Office of the Registrar evaluates all courses to determine if they will transfer to Lewis & Clark. The statements of transfer credit reflect the transfer work on official transcripts that we have received to date. If this evaluation does not reflect all of your previous college course work, please request that an updated official transcript be sent to the Lewis & Clark College, Office of the Registrar.
IMPORTANT: If the anticipated major noted on the Statement of Transfer Credit is not your current intended major, please email Linda Quandt so that we can send you a revised statement of credit and assign you to an appropriate advisor in that major.
B. August meeting with academic advisor:
1. On Friday, August 29, you will have an appointment with your faculty advisor to discuss the courses for which you registered over the summer. After meeting with your advisor, you may make changes to your course schedule if you wish.
C. BEFORE BEGINNING THE REGISTRATION PROCESS
1. Check WebAdvisor for Registration Permissions
- Registration appointment days and times
- Advisor approval to register has been entered by the Registrar's staff and will be effective until August 22nd.

We will accept an email from the instructor or you may submit a completed Prerequisite Substitute/Consent form to the Registrar's Office. If we receive consent before your registration appointment, you will be able to register for this course online.
6. THE FOLLOWING MAY BE DONE ONLY DURING THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF THE SEMESTER (ADD/DROP PERIOD): Take a graded course as credit/no credit. Note: courses used to fulfill a gen-ed requirement may NOT be taken as credit/no credit.- OVERLOAD (Register for more than 19 credits).
Note: a student must have an L&C gpa of 3.0 or better and the consent of their adviser to overload. Students in their first semester at Lewis & Clark should not overload.
7. When you arrive on campus for New Student Orientation, you will receive a packet with information about your advisor and the time and place of your meeting.
8. Most students register for a total of 16 credits (4 courses) plus any 1-credit activity courses such as music performance, PE, or athletics. Students need to average 16 credits each semester to complete in four years the 128 semester credits required for graduation.
