From here to there: Expanding minds
Equally engrossed, Rainier School District Superintendent Michael Carter and a budding scholar trade ideas while puzzling through a problem. Like the kids around him, Carter himself can’t resist the lure of learning. In July 2004, he joined 17 other Oregon educational leaders to begin pursuing a doctor of education in leadership degree at the Graduate School of Education and Counseling. Structured specifically for working professionals, the new degree represents the College’s first doctoral program.
And because the best learning is an ever widening loop rather than a closed circle, Mr. Carter’s young charges may very well find themselves, in the not too distant future, engaging in the kinds of eager dialogue and earnest conversation that draw students today to the graduate school’s expansive grounds.
