College of Arts and Sciences Campus Living Residence Halls Akin Hall

Akin_SideAkin Hall

Akin houses 65 students on two floors in primarily double occupancy rooms.

The residents of Akin say that the advantages of this hall include its large comfortable rooms, its location on campus, and the sense of community provided by the people who choose to live here.

The rooms are recently carpeted and contain walk-in closets and new movable furniture. Each floor has a large lounge and kitchen.

In the main lounge, you can often find students chatting around a cozy fire, cooking delicious food, or playing the grand piano. A basement game room provides residents with a number of additional entertainment opportunities.

As Lewis & Clark's Multicultural Themed Community, Akin's mission is to create a celebratory and supportive environment for students from different backgrounds to learn from one another -- promoting an understanding of ethnic and racial diversity, and of local and international heritages.

Akin residents take advantage of the daily opportunity to honor and explore our exciting and diverse cultural identities.

Akin sponsors a number of diversity-focused programs each year, including the annual Cultural Fair (Fall Term) and International Fair (Spring Term).

Take a look at a typical room layout for a DOUBLE occupancy room. You can download the page for a closer look but keep in mind, this is just a sample room. Akin, Stewart and Odell rooms are all similar in size and layout to the one shown here.

A Message from the Campus Living Coordinator:

Greetings!

As the CLC for Akin Hall, I'm responsible for overseeing the daily excitement that goes on in the community, and for helping to answer questions that you may have. I'm always up for a conversation about current events, culture, music, and literature.

This year's Cultural Fair is on Saturday, September 27th, so start thinking about recipes or traditions you'd like to share, and how you might want to get involved!
