Processing Your Federal Stafford Loan
FIRST-TIME BORROWERS
If you have never applied for and received Federal Stafford Loan funds in previous years at Lewis & Clark College, you are a First-Time Borrower. You must complete all four steps for your loan to be processed. - Complete an Entrance Interview.
- Research and choose a lender. Review our guide on choosing a lender to help you with this process. Once you have decided which lender you would like to work with, continue to step three.
- Complete the Loan Request Form (below). An email confirmation will be sent to you after you've completed this step.
- Complete your Master Promissory Note (MPN). After submitting the Federal Stafford Loan Request Form, you will be directed to your lender’s website. Follow the online application process at the lender’s website to complete your MPN. You must complete the electronic signature process to finish submitting your MPN.
CONTINUING BORROWERS
If you have applied for and received Federal Stafford Loans in previous years at Lewis & Clark, you are a Continuing Borrower. To ensure continuity in repayment, we recommend that you borrow your Federal Stafford Loan through the same lender each year. Complete the Loan Request Form (below) and be sure to indicate that you are a Continuing Borrower. We will contact you if any further action is necessary. Loan Request Form
This form must be completed by both First-Time and Continuing Borrowers. Please note, your Lewis & Clark student ID number may be found in the upper-right corner of your award letter.
