Federal Work-Study Department Allocations
Federal Work-Study funds are allocated to the law school, the graduate school, common services and CAS departments. Each year departments are required to submit budget requests and job descriptions for fiscal year funding consideration. Funds are distributed to the 5400 budget account for Federal Work-Study. The 5400 account is to be used exclusively to fund FWS employment. Preference for all on-campus jobs should be given to students eligible for FWS.
If students run out of FWS funds or a FWS position goes unfilled, departments in the College of Arts and Sciences must go through the approval process to receive non Federal Work-Study funding (5450 budget line). Please contact Student Financial Services for the appropriate forms. Under no circumstances can departments automatically convert student employees or department positions to 5450 funding without preapproval. For departments other than CAS, see your budget officer to gain approval for 5450 budget allocations.
