Federal Work-Study

The Federal Work-Study program provides jobs on or off campus to enable students to earn a portion of their college expenses. Students who demonstrate sufficient financial need and meet the appropriate deadlines can be awarded Federal Work-Study.

We strongly recommend that students use Federal Work-Study earnings to cover personal expenses - not to pay on their student account.

The Federal Work-Study (FWS) program is a federal financial aid program available to students with demonstrated financial need as measured by the US Department of Education. As authorized by Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended, the FWS program is partially funded by the federal government with a percentage match funded by the employer, Lewis & Clark College, or the outside agency. The availability of funds is dependent upon the annual appropriation from Congress and allocation from the US Department of Education. Federal Work-Study is awarded to eligible students as part of the financial aid package. The program emphasizes community service work outside of the College community and on-campus work that is vital to the functioning of the College. Students earn an hourly wage and are issued a monthly check. Students cannot earn more than the amount of their FWS award. Work hours must not interfere with scheduled class hours.

Graduate Students

The Federal Work-Study program is available to students at the Graduate School of Education who demonstrate sufficient financial need. Jobs are primarily located on campus and pay $7.95 to $9.00 an hour. Graduate students often find that their academic schedules do not allow time to take advantage of the Federal Work Study program. However, students who wish to have their eligibility for the program reviewed should contact the Office of Student Financial Services.

Law Students

Federal Work-Study is also available for law students. Visit the law school's Financing Your Education section for more information.
