Student Athlete Advisory Committee Bylaws
Article I. Purpose
To act as a liaison between the Lewis & Clark Athletic Administration and the Student-Athlete body. To encourage unity and communication between teams, athletes, faculty, and the entire Lewis & Clark community. To promote interest in athletic events, including Varsity, Club, and Intramural activities.
Article II. Membership
The committee is composed of two representatives from each Varsity team. A single representative from t Club Sports Council is welcome to attend all committee meetings. Each representative shall be nominated by the coach, submitted to the team with the final decision laying in the hands of the athletes that make up the team. Membership in the council shall last for the duration of the members' participation on the Varsity team for which they were chosen to represent, terminating at graduation or withdrawal from Varsity athletics. Each member will serve as a liaison between the committee and her/his individual team. In the case of absence due to overseas travel or other circumstances, appointment of a temporary representative shall be dealt with by the coach and the respective team. Each team can miss one meeting per semester. If more than one meeting is missed, the representation of that team will be up for review by the committee. If a team representative cannot attend a meeting, he/she must communicate with the other team representative to insure that the team is represented. Upon negligent attendance or involvement of a representative, the respective coach and team shall be informed and the decision for dismissal of the representative given to them.
Article III. Officers
The committee shall have positions including co-chairs - one female and one male and a secretary. Nomination and voting-in of officers shall be done by the committee.
A. Co-Chairs: Serve as the spokespeople for the committee with responsibilities including calling and directing of meetings, frequent meetings with Athletic Administration, representation of Lewis & Clark Student Athletes before the NCAA and other duties as assigned. This office shall last for one year and shall be appointed at the end of the academic year. Responsibilities of the elected begin upon election and continue until the following election.
B. Secretary: Responsibilities include careful notation of each meeting, including attendance which shall be distributed to all coaches, and distribution of minutes to the SAAC members, including Club team representatives. This office is held for one semester. Election shall occur at the end of each semester with responsibilities terminating at the time of the next election.

Article IV. Meetings
The committee shall meet at least once a month or as necessary. Meetings shall be restricted to committee members, Athletic Administrators, and invited guests. The committee may call public meetings as seen fit by the members, with regard to demand.
Article V. Responsibilities of Members
It is the responsibility of the representatives to present information and discuss topics with their teams, keep their teams informed of events to increase support among teams, and serve the committee as a voice of the teams' needs and concerns. This requires steady and meaningful attendance at SAAC meetings. Fifty percent of the teams must be represented in order to vote on by-law amendments. The two representatives from each Varsity team shall have equal representation on the committee giving each team one vote. Upon a split vote between representatives from one team, the vote shall be considered void. Concerning decisions not decided upon during a meeting, the representatives shall be responsible for discussing the given issue with their team with the decision upheld by the representatives. Issues discussed and decided upon by the committee shall be distributed to athletes, faculty, and LC community as seen fit by the members. Confidentiality of issues shall be determined by members of the committee, with each representative being responsible for upholding the committee's decision.
