Professional Biography

Maria Timmons Flores began teaching in 1977 at an at risk high school in Bellingham, Washington. She taught natural history, literacy, social studies, and basic living/studying skills. While in Bellingham she designed and implemented a community service program. This program received two years of funding through grants. She continued her success in obtaining grants when she moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Here she received a grant totaling $75,000 that was to go to several youth service agencies. After this triumph, she began to work as an outdoor educator, practicing her leadership skills, and honing in on her ability to build a relationship between troubled youths and nature. While she was working with nature, she also began to develop expertise in the areas of bilingual and ESL educating. She continued throughout the states and world with her knowledge of these fields.

At Lewis and Clark’s Graduate School of Education, Dr. Maria Timmons Flores is an Assistant Professor in the teacher education program.
