Paul Powers teaches a range of courses about Islam, Middle East history, and Religious Studies. His research interests focus on pre-modern Islam, especially Islamic law. He has published in the Journal of the American Academy of Religion, and his book, Intent in Islamic law: Motive and Meaning in Medieval Sunni Fiqh, is forthcoming from Brill Academic Publishers in 2005.
