Teacher Education
Mathematics Endorsement
Lewis & Clark College’s mathematics endorsement programs are designed to meet the needs of teachers who are at various places in their professional careers. Typical endorsement candidates include but are not limited to:
- Practicing teachers wishing to gain insight into how mathematics is learned and how to promote learning for their students;
- Teachers licensed in other subject areas wishing to change their teaching assignment to mathematics, or those holding transitional licenses;
- Elementary teachers wishing to become specialists in mathematics.
Two programs of study and practicum are offered: the Advanced Mathematics endorsement is designed for individuals preparing to teach high school and the Basic Mathematics endorsement is for individuals preparing to teach at the middle level (through Algebra I). Both programs meet all State of Oregon requirements and guidelines. Because there are multiple paths to obtaining the background in mathematics required for each program, applications for admission, including transcripts, are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
