Oregon Testing Requirements for Prospective Teachers

All teachers in Oregon must pass certain general knowledge tests before they can be licensed to teach.

If you are considering applying to a Teacher Education program for early childhood/elementary or middle level/high school teachers, we strongly encourage you to complete these tests before you apply to the program and to submit test scores with your application, which will increase the Admission Committee’s ability to assess your application.

If you are unable to complete the tests prior to applying, we very strongly recommend that you complete all of the required tests before the end of the first summer of study. Given the demands of the program and student teaching, it will be difficult for you to take the tests later in the year.
