NAVRA—The National Alliance of Victims' Rights Attorneys

To promote the exchange of knowledge and resources to foster a national network of skilled attorneys to represent crime victims in the criminal justice system. The National Alliance of Victims' Rights Attorneys (NAVRA), an association of the National Crime Victim Law Institute, is an alliance of attorneys committed to the protection, enforcement, and advancement of crime victims' rights nationwide.

Opportunities for members include:

  • A reduction in tuition for NCVLI's annual Law & Litigation Conference.
  • Victims' rights case updates. Each quarter, NCVLI combs court cases from the across the country and summarizes them in an index.
  • Conference call trainings on issues affecting crime victims.
  • An email listserv for attorney and law student members.

Through expanded communication with attorneys working in this area of the law, the National Crime Victim Law Institute hopes to increase the availability of and efficiencies in legal services to crime victims. Membership is also open to non-attorney victim advocates, crime victims, and individuals interested in legal developments that affect crime victims.

To foster NAVRA's development, the membership fee is temporarily waived.

  • NCVLI Submits Amicus Brief to the Washington Court of Appeals

    NCVLI submitted an amicus curiae brief to the Washington Court of Appeals arguing that  victims and other witnesses cannot be compelled to give a recorded interview to defense counsel in a criminal case because the practice violates the victim’s constitutional and statutory rights, and also re-victimizes the victims.http://www.lclark.edu/live/news/7179-ncvli-submits-amicus-brief-to-the-washington-court
  • NCVLI to Participate in Michigan Case to Protect Rape Shield Laws

    “Rape shield” laws are laws designed to protect a rape victim from being put on trial herself for her sexual history during the course of the rape trial. In Gagne v. Booker, the three-judge panel for the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals discounted Michigan’s rape shield statute in ruling that evidence that the victim engaged in sex in the past should have been admitted in order to show that it was more likely that the gang rape committed upon her was consensual. http://www.lclark.edu/live/news/7023-ncvli-to-participate-in-michigan-case-to-protect
  • Rape Victim’s Suit Against Police who Arrested Her Revived by Third Circuit

  • NCVLI’s Maryland Clinic Secures Huge Win on Privacy Rights for Victims

  • Spring Clinic Class Makes a Difference for Victims
